ZiiLABS is committed to enabling its OEM and Developer partners to deliver media-rich mobile and embedded platforms based on Android and have released our optimized implementation of Android for the Plaszma development platforms, including the recently announced Zii EGG handheld StemCell Computer.

The Android release for Plaszma is based on the Android Open Source Project and takes advantage of the flexible media processing capabilities of ZMS-05 media processing array. Seamless acceleration and extensions to the underlying Android framework enable developers and OEMs to run a wide range of standard Android applications without modification that benefit from the multi-format HD video, OpenGL ES acceleration and low-power consumption of the ZMS-05 media-rich applications processor.

The Zii EGG is a sleek, handheld development platform that enables Integrators, Developers and OEMs to create customized applications and devices supporting Linux-based Plaszma OS and Android development.

Developers and OEMs can buy the Zii EGG : Developer Edition NOW with the Plaszma OS and then download the FREE firmware update allowing migration to Android.

Android on Plaszma gives developers the chance use the familiar Android OS, but with a difference. Thanks to the underlying StemCell Computing technology of the ZMS processors, Android has super charged media processing, including 3D Graphics and High Definition Video Playback.

1 The Zii EGG unit has a three buttons (On/Off, Camera and Menu) which are used to drive the traditional Android Home, Back and Menu functions

3 Feature is supported in hardware but not yet supported in current release of ZiiLABS Android Firmware
4 The Zii EGG: Developer Edition is not a certified Android end-user device and as such does not provide access the Android Marketing Place.
5 The Zii EGG is a Wi-Fi only connected handheld.
6 As a Developer Device and for codec licensing reasons the Zii EGG does not ship with all the codecs found on some end-user Android devices, including, but not limited to (AAC LTP Decode, AMR-NB Decode, AMR-NB Encode and AMR-WB Decode, ). For OEM's and Integrators wishing to ship end-user products these codecs are within the ZiiLABS codec portfolio and can be made available.
